Propel & Sinuva Stents

The Propel and Sinuva stents are innovative, FDA-approved treatments designed to help patients suffering from chronic sinusitis with polyps. This implantable device is a game-changer for individuals experiencing nasal polyps and persistent sinus inflammation that is recurrent after surgery.

What are the Propel and Sinuva stents?

PROPEL and SINUVA are self-expanding, bioabsorbable implants that deliver the corticosteroid mometasone furoate directly to the sinus mucosa. They can be placed at the time of sinus surgery to maintain sinus patency or can be placed in the future to treat recurrent nasal polyps. Both implants aim to reduce inflammation, shrink nasal polyps, and improve sinus function, providing targeted drug delivery while minimizing systemic effects.

  • Minimally Invasive – Inserted in a simple in-office procedure, avoiding the need for extensive surgery.
  • Sustained Drug Delivery – Provides continuous relief by delivering anti-inflammatory medication directly to the affected area.
  • Improved Breathing & Symptom Relief – Reduces nasal congestion, improves airflow, and enhances overall sinus health.
  • Reduced Need for Oral Steroids – Targets inflammation locally, lowering the risk of systemic steroid side effects.

PROPEL Sinus Implant:

  • Design: Delivers 370 µg of mometasone furoate over 30 days.

  • Absorption: Dissolves over approximately 30 to 45 days as the sinus heals.

SINUVA Sinus Implant:

  • Design:  delivers 1,350 µg of mometasone furoate over 90 days.

  • Absorption: Softens and dissolves over time, typically removed by day 90 or earlier at the physician’s discretion.

Both implants are Inserted in a non-surgical, in-office procedure under local anesthesia.
