Allergy Shots

SCIT (Subcutaneous Immunotherapy) or allergy shots treats allergies by retraining your immune system. Normally, your immune system overreacts to allergens like pollen or dust mites, causing symptoms like sneezing, congestion, or asthma. SCIT exposes your body to tiny, controlled amounts of the allergen through regular injections. Over time, your immune system builds tolerance to the allergen, reducing the overreaction. 80โ€“90% of patients see significant symptom reduction and many achieve symptoms resolution. SCIT is personalized to your specific allergy triggers (confirmed through allergy testing). You get targeted treatment for what actually affects youโ€”not a one-size-fits-all approach.

What are the benefits?
  • Reduce allergy symptoms (like congestion, runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, asthma symptoms).

  • Decrease or eliminate the need for daily allergy medications.

  • Long-term symptom relief even after treatment ends.

  • Treat the root cause by modifying your immune system to stop overreacting to allergens.
  • Improved quality of life including better sleep, more energy, and ability to enjoy outdoor activities or pets without suffering.

SCIT (Subcutaneous Immunotherapy) treats allergies by retraining your immune system. Hereโ€™s how:

๐Ÿงฌ Immune System Desensitization

  • Normally, your immune system overreacts to allergens like pollen or dust mites, causing symptoms like sneezing, congestion, or asthma.

  • SCIT exposes your body to tiny, controlled amounts of the allergen through regular injections.

  • Over time, your immune system builds tolerance to the allergen, reducing the overreaction.

๐Ÿ”„ What Happens Internally:

  • Early exposure (small doses) stimulates immune cells called regulatory T cells, which help “calm down” allergic responses.

  • Over time, your body produces more IgG antibodies (blocking antibodies), which compete with the allergy-triggering IgE antibodies.

  • The result: fewer symptoms and less inflammation when exposed to the allergen.

  • Allergy shots involve injecting small amounts of the allergens (the things you’re allergic toโ€”like pollen, dust mites, pet dander, etc.) under the skin, usually in the upper arm.
  • Shots are administered once a week for the first year, with allergen doses increasing at each visit.
  • Doses are increased until the maximum tolerated dose is achieved. This becomes the maintenance dose. Shots can now decrease in frequency to every 2-4 weeks.
  • Most patients report symptom relief within 6โ€“12 months. By year 2, big improvement are seen.

  • Total treatment time is typically 3 to 5 years.
